Since 1996, SIMCO (formerly COSIGMA) has contributed to the modernization, code compliance, restoration, and maintenance of Collège de Montréal’s buildings. The building that currently houses Collège de Montréal was constructed in 1870, adjacent to the Grand Séminaire de la Montagne, built in 1857, on the historic site of the former fort established for Indigenous peoples in 1676. Built with massive load-bearing walls of ancestral stone, the structure reflects a unique and rich architectural heritage.
SIMCO has carried out numerous mandates, including structural inspections, condition assessment and structural integrity, design of modernization, strengthening and rehabilitation works, code compliance upgrades, and preliminary studies for new infrastructure projects. Beyond analysis and design, SIMCO supports the College in procurement processes and ensures quality control of executed works.
SIMCO has built a lasting relationship with the College through rigorous methodologies focused on minimal intervention. This approach focuses on intervening only when essential, favoring repair or reinforcement instead of replacement to maximize structural longevity and ensure cost efficiency. Throughout its interventions, SIMCO has remained committed to preserving the College’s unique character and original architecture, respecting its heritage and identity. This philosophy is reinforced by close collaboration and effective coordination with partners and firms engaged by the institution, ensuring durable and harmonious solutions.
