Dr. Marchand co-founded Service d’Expertise en Matériaux (S.E.M.) Inc. in 1989 and SIMCO Technologies Inc. in 1997. He is an internationally recognized expert in concrete mixture design, degradation mechanism analysis and durability modeling of concrete infrastructure. From 1992 to 2012, Dr. Marchand has led a productive academic career, as a tenured Professor for the Department of Civil Engineering at Laval University, during which he also held a Canada Research Chair and a NSERC Industrial Research Chair. As principal officer of SIMCO, Dr. Marchand heads the strategic initiatives of the organization and is responsible for negotiating alliances with key partners.
Mrs. Reid joined Service d’Expertise en Matériaux (S.E.M.) Inc. as General Manager in 1994, became a shareholder in 1996, and co-founded SIMCO Technologies Inc. in 1997. As Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing, she led many strategic and high-potential growth initiatives. She identified and evaluated business opportunities as well as new markets for SIMCO’s services and solutions while managing and building long-term strategic relationships with partners across various industries around the world. From early on in her career, Mrs. Reid has been very involved in her business and social community and has served on many different boards and executive committees.
Today, as Executive Vice President, she oversees new strategic business opportunities, marketing and sales efforts, while supervising SIMCO’s overall operations and departments. Mrs. Reid is also responsible for planning, developing and implementing key business strategies that support SIMCO’s corporate mission and objectives.
Director - Engineering
Mr. Ouellet has been with SIMCO Technologies Inc. since 1997. He was Operations Director from 2004 to 2010, Product Manager & Technical Director from 2010 to 2011 and is now Director of Engineering since 2012. Mr. Ouellet has a broad experience when it comes to the optimization of conventional or specialized concrete mixes such as roller compacted concrete (RCC). Throughout his career, Mr. Ouellet has developed an extensive expertise in the inspection and characterization of damaged concrete structures. He is widely recognized for his excellent work in the elaboration of specification documents, maintenance and repair procedures, in the design and optimization of durable concrete mixtures and in the supervision of construction work. He has significant knowledge in service-life predictive analyses of concrete structures which includes aspects of durability, failure analysis, premature deterioration of concrete infrastructure and its impact on asset management.
Mr. Ouellet is the author and coauthor of several scientific articles relating to roller compacted concrete (RCC). Mr. Ouellet is a member of the “Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec” (Association of Professional Engineers in the Province of Quebec) and the American Concrete Institute.
Director - Innovation
Dr. Eric Samson is the Senior Researcher and the Director of Research and Development at SIMCO Technologies Inc. Specialized in ionic transfer modeling in reactive porous materials, Dr. Samson has worked at SIMCO since 1997 on the development of the STADIUM software, which allows the prediction of the degradation of concrete structures exposed to chemically aggressive environments. His education combines knowledge of numerical techniques such as the finite element method, and knowledge of materials.
Dr. Samson has participated, as principal author or coauthor, in the writing of over forty scientific papers in the field of service-life prediction of concrete structures. He currently supervises a research team of engineers and scientific researchers dedicated to the development of the STADIUM software and the extension of its features.
Dr. Samson has also developed testing methods that are now specified by the U.S. Navy to assess the durability of concrete for new structures. Since 2007, he leads SIMCO’s participation in the DOE Cement Barriers Partnership (CBP) project dedicated to the modeling of nuclear waste storage long-term durability. Since 2010, he acts as an associate partner on the European project TRANSCEND dedicated to the modeling of moisture in cementitious materials.
Dr. Samson is a member of the “Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec” (Association of Professional Engineers in the Province of Quebec). He is also a member of RILEM and was a member of the technical committee PAE dedicated to the performance of concrete in aggressive environments.
Director - Legal & Corporate Affairs
Mr. Viau is SIMCO’s in-house corporate counsel since 2002. He is responsible for all legal, corporate and commercial aspects of SIMCO’s business activities and ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Mr. Viau’s responsibilities include the negotiating, drafting and reviewing of contracts and agreements, in addition to the management of all corporate governance requirements and the protection of intellectual property. Mr. Viau also handles legal affairs pertaining to SIMCO’s human resources.
Mr. Viau holds two Bachelor degrees, one in Political Science and another in Law as well as a Master’s degree in Corporate Law. He is a member of the Quebec Bar Association.
Director - Marketing & Communications
Mrs. Morest is a marketing and sales professional with over twenty years of experience within Engineering, Information Technologies, Manufacturing and geospatial industries. As Director of Marketing and Communications at SIMCO, Mrs. Morest is responsible for the elaboration of marketing programs that help promote SIMCO’s infrastructure durability expertise to customers worldwide. Through a varied marketing mix, she showcases SIMCO’s impressive national and international project portfolio, and illustrates how SIMCO’s experts have unique methods to help our clients identify the most cost-effective maintenance and repair options, while prioritizing interventions, as well as optimizing strategic and capital planning.
