Rehabilitation of the multi-level underground parking structure

Parking Lot Rehabilitation – HEC Montreal

HEC Montreal
Montreal, Canada
2017-2021

The underground parking of the Côte-Sainte-Catherine building at HEC Montreal includes five levels. In compliance with the Safety Code – Building Chapter, a regulatory inspection was conducted in 2015 to ensure public safety. SIMCO (formerly COSIGMA) was commissioned to assess the extent of observed damage and define the required rehabilitation work. Due to an asphalt mastic covering the top surface of the concrete slabs, additional investigations were necessary.

SIMCO’s specialized methodology

  • Core sampling on four structural levels to analyze concrete quality
  • Ground-penetrating radar survey to evaluate rebar corrosion
  • Hammer sounding to verify damage progression since the initial study
  • Plan & specifications for the rehabilitation work
  • Rehabilitation work supervision

A complete damage survey of slab undersides and columns provided a thorough assessment.

Following defect characterization, SIMCO delivered plans and specifications aligned with recommendations and ensured rigorous monitoring of rehabilitation work, guaranteeing long-term durability and structural safety.
